Because one believes in oneself, one doesn’t try to convince others. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn’t need others’ approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her.
― Lao Tzu
Do any of the following situations resonate with you?
Each one of these situations represents you giving your power away. By not standing up for yourself, setting boundaries, or making excuses for those who manipulate you, you are giving your power away. And every time that happens you are showing yourself and the world that you are not worthy.
When you allow people to irritate you, manipulate you, make you feel “less than”, you are essentially handing them the power to control YOUR energy. They simply do not deserve this. Stop giving them your power.
For many years, I have been intimidated by a particular business associate who runs semi-monthly meetings that I attend. We are the same age and occupy the same positions in our jobs but something about her always made me feel insecure – and honestly she never gave me the time of day. It was like I was non-existent.
Last summer (after reading a TCL Daily Lesson) I decided to take a different attitude with her – an I don’t give a f*** attitude. The next time I saw her I approached her as though we were old friends and continued that every time we met.
This past week I attended 2 different business conferences and she was at both. This time she approached me as though we were old friends. We had breakfast together, we had lunch together, at a meeting she was running she mentioned my name several times and asked for my opinion on subjects we were talking about – it was like a total turnaround. So much so that even my assistant made a comment about it.
Made me wonder – Did I change? Or did she change?
Really take notice today (and everyday) where you may be giving your power away and really focus on what is happening in that moment.
Let us know how it turns out!!
